What We've Been Up To...

It's been over 10 days since my last post.  I've been lazy lately.  My only excuse is that I haven't taken any awesome pictures or completed any pinterest projects.  But I will share some pictures of what we've been over the past couple weeks...

The office/play room is coming along.  We are transitioning into calling it the "Art Room."  The kids have started using it for its new purpose.

Mitchell almost wore this headband to Sam's.  He found it, said "I wear girl headband," then put it on.  He really didn't want to take it off and I decided not to make him and let him express himself.  It happened to come off in the car before we made it to Sam's, though.

Later that same day, we announced we were going to go ice skating...this was Maya's reaction:

Ice Skating didn't go too well.  Mitchell fell on the ice in the 2 seconds he actually touched the ground.  Arthur ripped skin off his pinky finger when trying to catch himself on the railing so he didn't drop Mitchell.  Maya was just plain terrified.  It will be a long while before we try it again, it was anything but BLISSFUL!

Maya got bored one night and decided to write her name in toothpicks.

Mitchell slept until 10AM for the first time ever!

 More art...

We talked about potty training.  Keyword being "talked," we are not there yet.

I found that the best ingredient for a smoothie is "frozen yogurt."  I sweeten plain chobani yogurt with honey and vanilla and then freeze in ice cube trays.  You can all sorts of fruits, milks, powders, etc, to make so many fun combinations of smoothies.

And somehow, don't ask me how, this guy is getting too close to 2 and a half!

They really do love each other 80% of the time.

Family Photos

In October we had family pictures taken at Mitchell Memorial Forest.  We found a great photographer who gave us a CD of all the photos for us to print ourselves.  I finally got around to printing some of them and making my version of this

I started out by picking my 6 favorite black and white pictures and ordering them in 12x12's.  Then I went to Home Depot and picked out a piece of plywood and had it cut down to 1'x6'.

On Tuesday, Maya helped me paint the plywood black.

Once the black paint dried, I just used spray adhesive to attach the pictures.  I was going to use mod podge over the top, but I don't think it's necessary.

I hung it today on a wall just outside the office/playroom which can also be seen by the front door.  I think it is just what the wall needed.  Here are a couple views of it.  It's hard to get a great picture of it because it is so long and there's not much room between the wall and the steps, making it difficult to get the whole thing in view.

I'm rarely happy with the way my own things turn out.  This turned out exactly the way I pictured it in my head.  I can't stop walking by that wall just to check it out.  I'm in love!

In other news, I have to share how proud I am of Mitchell.  He did so awesome in swim lessons last night that the teacher kept having us get in view of the lifeguards so she could "show off."  She also complimented his language development saying "Wow, he has really good language for only 2 and a half."  That was a very proud mommy/speech therapist moment.  I'm also proud of him for learning letters.  He loves these foam letters that stick in the shower and even goes in there to play when it's not shower time.  I'm pretty sure he knows every letter.  It's so cool to listen to him pick the letter up and name it.

The Park In January

We got to enjoy a very warm January day today.  We wanted to go to the zoo, but the forecast of rain made that seem like a bad idea.  Turned out we could have gone to the zoo, since it never rained.  But we went to the park instead and had a great time.  I got to try out my new camera lens outside and I am in love.  I think I got a lot of great shots.
